Wind, Snow and Alpacas…..Oh My!

Wyoming

As soon as we entered Wyoming we were immersed in a relentless wind tunnel! 30-40 mph crosswinds with gusts well over 40+ mph. Semi-trucks were wagging their behinds as the lateral forces frequently blew them onto the shoulder.

However, Big Blue and Annie Rose met the challenge and cut through the forces like a knife through butter! Although, I have to admit that I was pretty tired after the drive.

But, it got really interesting in Laramie, Wyoming

SNOW…..are you kidding me…..fortunately, it didn’t accumulate, but the next several nights went down to 30 degrees. So, disconnecting the water lines and turning on the tank heaters were in order! Cozy nights in the Airstream!!

We are so fortunate to be able to journey across our great country on highways created by visionaries such as Henry B. Joy. Between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming on I-80 is the Abraham Lincoln Highway Monument which commemorates the Lincoln Highway, the first, continuous transcontinental highway.

You can read more about the highway’s history and the construction of the Lincoln Memorial here: Lincoln Highway

Utah

Onto Utah and highway rest areas with a view!!

While in Salt Lake City, Utah, we had the opportunity to visit with our daughter-in-law Courtney’s sister Megan; her husband Chris and their two children Knox and Archie. We had not seen them since Elliott and Courtney’s wedding almost 2 years ago and It was so nice to see their home, play with the kids and get caught up with them.

In addition to camping at State/National Parks, National Forests, Army Corp of Engineer Facilities and the many RV Parks which dot the countrysides, with our Harvest Hosts membership, we camp at wineries, breweries, museums, farms and other unique places — such as an Alpaca Farm.

In Willard, Utah, we were guests at the Unita Family Alpaca Farm where we parked Annie Rose and were treated to an educational tour of this family owned/operated farm, learned all about alpacas and the tremendous hard work and dedication it takes to run a successful alpaca business. The view out our bedroom (back of the Airstream) was spectacular, the night was eerily dark and silent and of course, we were waken by the family roosters!

Take a look at the many faces of these lovable, cuddly animals. Click on an image to enlarge:

Idaho and Oregon

After a short overnight in Idaho, we arrived in Oregon where we’ll spend the better part of this week exploring. In the meantime, we’ve been able to add 2 more states (Idaho and Oregon) to our expanding RV Camping map. In order add a state to our map, we must spend at least 24 hours in the state, camp overnight in our RV and we must do it together!

This week we journeyed to 3 states (Utah, Idaho and Oregon), continued connecting with friends and family along the way, delt with Mother Nature’s wind, snow and thunderstorms and learned all about Alpacas……the Meandering continues……
