The Airstream Price Tower Rally, gathered over 100+ Airstreamers, from Texas and Oklahoma, in downtown Bartlesville, Oklahoma to celebrate the vision of two artistic, American icons: Frank Lloyd Wright (architect) and Wally Byam (creator of the Airstream.
Activities included presentations about Frank Lloyd Wright and Wally Byam as well as a tour of the Price Tower. Like all Airstream Rallies, there were plenty of happy hours, dinners, lively discussions about destinations and of course Airstream ‘tech-time”.
Additionally, everyone enjoyed exploring Bartlesville and all that it has to offer.
“We create our buildings and then they create us. Likewise, we construct our circle of friends and our communities and then they construct us.”
— Frank Lloyd Wright
“Adventure is where you find it, any place, every place, except at home in the rocking chair.”
— Wally Byam
Price Tower
The Price Tower is a spectacular building of copper and concrete and stands in the downtown area of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The tower was built for Harold C. Price as a corporate headquarters for his pipeline construction company. Mr. Price had originally thought of a rather modest rectangular building a few stories high, however Frank Lloyd Wright convinced him that it would be more economic and efficient to build up rather than out.
Airstream
When Wally Byam opened the first Airstream factory in 1931 (California), there were fewer than 50 trailer manufacturers registered for business. In the next five years, demand for the trailer lifestyle exploded and the industry followed suit – by 1937, there were around 400 manufacturers competing for customers. Unfortunately for many of those daring entrepreneurs, the Great Depression and World War II took a toll, and today, only Airstream remains.
