Back in Katy, Texas!

After 5 months of meandering through the lower 48, Canada and Alaska, we have finally returned to Katy, Texas! It has been an incredible journey and certainly the longest (distance and time) we have ever taken.

We were so very fortunate to have been able to undertake on this trip and we are extremely grateful for all the wonderful people we met, the once-in-a-life-time experiences, the breathtaking scenery and most importantly, we thank God for keeping us safe along the way.

Annie Rose and Big Blue have been unloaded, cleaned and minor repairs completed. After living in 170 square feet for most of our journey, it has been strange being back in the house! Susan especially appreciates being able to enjoy a larger shower, kitchen and bedroom again!!

After leaving Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, we headed south to join 1,300 other Airstreams at the 67th Annual Airstream Rally in Sedalia, Missouri.

This week-long gathering was filled with lots of educational seminars, food, entertainment, parties, sight-seeing and of course, camaraderie among 2,500+ adventuring Airstreamers.

The rally was held at the historic Missouri State Fairgrounds, just east of Kansas City, Missouri and Sedalia is definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.

Here is how you fit 1,300 Airstreams into one location (click on image to enlarge):

So, here we are, back at home base and reflecting upon the past 5 months and all that we achieved.

You’ll notice that I did not list the total miles travelled. That’s because we’d like to see which one of you can guess how many miles we drove, round trip from Katy, Texas. (per the truck’s odometer)

Throughout our blog posts, there have been numerous hints of our destinations, side trips, maps and even disclosures of miles traveled enroute.

So, get out your calculator, fire up Google, review our past posts and give us your best guess!!!

We have a special treat from Homer, Alaska for the person whose guess is closest to the total miles we travelled on this journey!

Please send us your guess (1 guess/person) by Thanksgiving to:

Thanks to all of you for following along with us, providing encouraging emails, participating in our little contest and we hope our journey has inspired you to get out and meander around as well! I thoroughly enjoyed creating these posts and as I did so, I came to appreciate our journey even more.

So, what’s next……..well, we’re attending a couple of Texas-based Airstream club rallies in November/December and our meandering plans for 2025 are already in the works:

  • In the Spring, we’ll be exploring the Texas Gulf Coast with 24 other Airstreams on a 2-week caravan from Galveston to Brownsville known as “The Texas Riviera Caravan”.
  • We’re off to upper peninsula Michigan in the summer as we head to Mackinac Island

So, stay tuned, because……..the Meandering Continues!
